Polish developer CD Projekt RED is currently working, among other things, on a sequel to the (eventually) popular Cyberpunk 2077. However, very little is known about this mysterious sequel, which is currently codenamed ‘Project Orion’. Magda Zych of CD Projekt RED spoke with Gaming Bolt about the future of the franchise and revealed an interesting tidbit.
According to her, future Cyberpunk games shouldn’t necessarily take place in Night City: any city that has been badly affected by capitalism would work.
“Ashes [Cyberpunk[Cyberpunk creator]Mike Pondsmith said, cyberpunk as a genre is a kind of warning of what might happen if we’re not careful as a race. It’s not such an abstract sci-fi idea. I think these kinds of stories can take place anywhere that uber-capitalism develops, causing the collapse of societies. Night City is just a place like any other city, real or imagined.”
It will probably take a while before we get more concrete information about this, but in itself it is something to get (slightly) excited about.
